Not yet decided what you're doing Halloween weekend? Ben Mars and Nige Potts are running another walk/cross country panto/lrp for the public at the fabulous Hawkstone Caves site complete with Follies and Caves.

Hawkstone Manor, the grim, granite faced lunatic asylum across the hill, is in chaos.Patients with Downright Challenging Behaviours have scattered out into the darkened night, many of them now infected with Vampyre Plague. Some may ...look... perfectly normal, others have already begun their transformation into Denizens of the Night. Ada and Abraham Van Helsing have managed to track the Vampyre to its lair.

Amusing character roles, weird gribbly sound and movement parts, endless hot drinks and a nearby bed for the night, plus help with travel expenses available to anyone who feels like crewing with us on 30th October. Somewhere between LRP and street theatre, basically a series of set piece encounters at a stunning location.

And if you can't make it – have you got kit that could be borrowed? They're looking especially for graveyard stones; Roman armour; laboratory equipment and Victorianesque vampire slaying gear.

more detailed info is behind the LJ cut, email Ben or Nige mentioning my name if they don't know you if you feel like taking part or just want to ask questions...

SATURDAY 30th OCTOBER: HAWKSTONE PARK CAVES AND FOLLIES,
WESTON UNDER REDCASTLE, SHROPSHIRE.

Ada van Helsing: Night of the Vampyre Plague

Now this one's a story about Van Helsing...

Well, yes, about Abraham a little bit, but mostly, this is really a story of Ada Van Helsing, his elder
sister, who taught him all he knows, and is usually the one to haul his chestnuts out of the fire when
everything goes wrong....

It is Halloween, the time when fell beasts roam and all right-thinking folk are at home with more
charms and protections laid across their doors and windows than can properly fit.

Hawkstone Manor, the grim, granite faced lunatic asylum across the hill, is in chaos. Earlier
tonight, a great flying beast crashed through the skylights of the Conservatory for the Housing of
The Deeply Malignantly Disturbed. A Bloodbeast! A Vampyre! Foul carrier of the plague of Cain
into the World!

Patients with Downright Challenging Behaviours have scattered out into the darkened night, many
of them now infected with Vampyre Plague.
Some may ...look... perfectly normal, others have already begun their transformation into Denizens
of the Night.

Ada and Abraham Van Helsing have managed to track the Vampyre to its lair. If it can be destroyed
before midnight, then all its works will begin to fade, and the world will be safe by the morning.
If they fail in their task.... well, it's too gruesome to imagine. Let us just say you'll be wanting to buy
a lot of canned food and some very heavy doorbolts.

Well, Abraham and his assistants have the Master Vampyre cornered, but they need more of Ada's
Patent Vampyre Removal Elixir (always read the label, not to be taken internally or externally, may
cause burns, especially in those of a Dark and Evil Nature).

So Ada's back at her lab in the White Tower at the top of the hill, brewing Elixir as fast as she can.
And she can't stop doing that to take what she's made so far through the dark, dangerous night, full
who knows what, to the Vampyre Lair where Abraham's waiting for it (and knowing him, probably
in a bit of a pickle without it)...

So she needs some helpers...

SATURDAY 30th OCTOBER: HAWKSTONE PARK CAVES AND FOLLIES,
SHROPSHIRE

So, what is the event?:
We're bringing character-based pervasive gaming, interactive improvisational theatre, cross-country
pantomime, live roleplay, whatever you wish to call it, to the general public. Let's call what we're
doing 'Let's Pretend' - the more you pretend and get other people to do so, the more fun it is.

Hawkstone Park is a Grade 1 listed landscape in Shropshire with caves (originally a Roman copper
sulphate mine), follies and high rock spires (where the BBC filmed Narnia), near Weston-Under-
Redcastle and fairly close to the village of Hodnet.

After the panto-style 'Captain Blood and the Bogey Troll' (thrills, spills and buckets of snot) walk/
game / theatre for 400-odd attendees we ran in August, we've been asked back to run something for
a slightly more adult audience: what the park are describing as a Spooky Walk, taking place as part
of the Winter Evening on Saturday 30th October (night before Halloween).

'Captain Blood' was a whole-day festival style event ending in a single finale.
Ada van Helsing: Night of the Vampyre Plague' has a more linear storyline, a series of set-piece
encounters with characters which the public meet as the walk progresses, as well as some free-
roaming encounters.

The walk starts with Ada at her lab, entrusting the public with newly created vials of Elixir to take
to Abraham.

They pass through encounters which include some of the denizens and visitors to the lunatic
asylum, both whole and transformed into Fell Things, van Helsings plural and assistants, Perfectly
Normal Members of the Public, graverobbers (and surprisingly alive grave occupant), ghosts,
Vampyres, Things that go Bump in the Night and Something Wrong In the Nice Little Cottage.

The more subtle scares aim to feed in to and build people's general levels of jumpiness at walking
through dark creepy places, mixed with BOO! moments and HammerHorror B movie style set-
pieces.

The walk ends with a set-piece confrontation in the caves between Abe van Helsing and the
Vampyre, where the public can help with the destruction of the Nameless Evil that Stalks These
Lands.

So...
We're after people who want to come and help frit up members of the public who are in a
suggestible state, as well as getting a chance to have a look round a really nice set of caves and follies in the day.

If you're interested we'd need you there from 1pm for any character roles (we may be able to accept late comers who are interesting in making woodland noises).Indoor accomodation and help with travel expenses both available.
